Orchard Road
Singapore is one of the main shopping and entertainment districts in
Singapore. There are countless shopping plazas along both Orchard Road and
Scotts Road. Orchard Road was named after the Orchard plantations that
were located along the road in the 1800's. Development of Orchard Road did
not begin until the 20th century.
The shopping plazas include Far East Shopping Centre which is good for electronic stores, Pacific Plaza, Royal Plaza on Scotts, DFS, Far East Plaza and Wheelock Place which has a large Borders and Marks and Spencers on the corner of Orchard Road and Scotts Road.
Some of the specialty stores you will find on Orchard Road and Scotts Road include Cartier, Dolce and Gabbana, Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Georgio Armani and Emporio Armani. On the corner of Scotts Road and Orchard Road is Lido 8 Complex which is an 8 cinema movie complex showing the latest release movies.
Hotels on Orchard Road There are a number of hotels found along Orchard road ranging from expensive 5 star hotels and others more reasonable priced. Orchard Towers is located on Orchard Road just across from the Hilton Hotel. During the day there are stores opening selling electronics, tailored suits and business shirts. The stores are open until 7pm. There are also over 15 bars in Orchard Towers. Some of the bars open at midday though the majority open around 6-7pm and are open until 3am during the week and 4am on weekends.
The Thai Embassy is located along Orchard Road. The Thai King bought the land in the 1800's. The land is now the most underdeveloped land along Orchard Road.
